Large Cranes Are Systems Made From Systems
A large crane may combine components and technology from several manufacturers.
One machine may have:
- Cummins, MTU or another diesel engine
- Rexroth, Danfoss, Parker or other hydraulic components
- Electronic joysticks and proportional controls
- CAN networks
- LMI / RCL systems
- Boom-position and angle sensors
- Multiple controllers
- Winch and swing drives
- Outrigger controls
- Manufacturer-specific electronics
For example, current U.S.-market SANY crawler cranes can combine Cummins engines, Rexroth winches and Danfoss hydraulics in the same machine.
That is why Mondak does not approach a crane as one mysterious proprietary machine.

Hydraulic Crane Diagnostics & Repair
We troubleshoot and repair problems involving:

A crane that is slow under load does not automatically need a pump.

We would rather measure what the system is doing than guess at the most expensive component.

Hydraulic force only helps when the mechanical equipment can properly transfer it.
A worn pin, bore, bearing or mount can create a problem that eventually shows up as a hydraulic failure somewhere else.

Foreign or Unusual Equipment Does Not Stop at the Connector
Imported and specialized cranes can bring another challenge: getting into the electronics in the first place.

When the normal diagnostic adapter is not available, our multi-pin setup can allow us to build the appropriate diagnostic connection on supported equipment using the correct machine information and pinout.

- Standalone engines
- Damaged diagnostic ports
- Modified equipment
- Controllers removed from the machine
An unfamiliar connector does not automatically end the diagnostic process.
Engines, Transmissions & Carrier Systems
An all-terrain or rough-terrain crane is also a carrier.

Older & Hard-to-Support Cranes
Large cranes can stay productive for decades.
Eventually, the challenge may become an obsolete controller, unavailable hydraulic component, damaged wiring harness or component that no longer has an easy factory replacement.
Depending on the application, Mondak can look at options such as:
- Repairing the existing component
- Rebuilding hydraulic components
- Cross-referencing replacements
- Repairing controls and wiring
- ECM or controller programming
- Adapting hydraulic connections
- Machining pins and bushings
- Repairing worn bores
- Fabricating components or mounts
- Updating components where appropriate
A discontinued part number does not automatically mean the crane is finished.
Structural Damage Is Different
Boom damage, cracks, deformation, damaged welds and other structural concerns are not treated like a leaking hose or failed solenoid.
Structural crane work has to be evaluated around the affected component, manufacturer requirements, applicable engineering requirements and the inspections or testing required before return to service.
Field Service Where the Crane Is
Large cranes usually need to be diagnosed where they are.
Mondak provides mobile crane diagnostics and field repair, backed by shop capabilities when we need to bring a pump, motor, cylinder, valve, controller or other component back for more extensive work.
Our machining, fabrication, hydraulic and electronic capabilities give the field technician somewhere to go when the repair becomes more than a service-truck job.

If you have fault codes, know which function is affected or know what operating conditions cause the problem, that information helps.
Give us the manufacturer, model, serial number if available, location and what the crane is doing. We'll start there.
