Not Every Symptom Points to the Failed Part
A truck that will not crank may have a starter problem.
Or it may have a voltage drop, poor ground, damaged cable, control issue or interlock preventing the starter from being commanded.
A PTO that will not engage may involve the PTO itself, or the air, electrical, transmission or control system that operates it.
The same thing happens with hydraulic equipment.
Before replacing an expensive component, it helps to know whether that component is actually the problem.
Vocational Trucks Add Another Layer
Work trucks often combine several systems that were built by different manufacturers.
The chassis manufacturer built one part.
The body or equipment manufacturer added another.
Then there may be a PTO, hydraulic system, controls, aerial device, crane or other equipment tying everything together.
