Hydraulic Cylinder Repair
Depending on the cylinder and its condition, Mondak can work on:

Sometimes a reseal is all the cylinder needs.
Other times opening it up shows damage that needs to be addressed before new seals are installed.
A New Seal Won't Fix a Damaged Rod
Pitted, scored or bent cylinder rods can quickly damage a new seal.
We evaluate problems such as:
- Rod scoring
- Pitting and corrosion
- Bent rods
- Damaged threads
- Worn connection points
- Surface damage
Depending on the condition and the application, the practical repair may involve repairing the existing component, machining what is needed, or manufacturing a replacement.
The goal is to repair the cylinder in a way that makes sense for the equipment.
Pins, Bushings & Mounting Wear Matter Too
Sometimes the problem is not inside the cylinder.
Worn pins, bushings, bores and mounting points can allow a cylinder to move or side-load in ways it was never designed to.
That can contribute to:
- Bent rods
- Seal failures
- Worn rod surfaces
- Damaged glands
- Worn bores
- Broken mounts
- Repeat cylinder failures
Rebuilding the cylinder without looking at worn mounting components may only solve part of the problem.
Machining, Welding & Fabrication
Our machining, welding and fabrication capabilities give us more options when cylinder components are worn, damaged or difficult to replace.
Depending on the repair, that can include work involving:
- Pins
- Bushings
- Rod components
- Worn bores
- Mounting points
- Related machined parts
- Fabricated components
That can be especially useful on older or specialty equipment where the OEM part is expensive, obsolete or no longer available.
Older & Hard-to-Find Cylinders
A cylinder does not automatically become scrap because the manufacturer no longer sells it.
If a direct replacement is unavailable, Mondak can look at options such as:
- Rebuilding the original cylinder
- Repairing reusable components
- Machining replacement parts
- Manufacturing pins or bushings
- Repairing worn mounting points
- Fabricating related components
- Adapting a replacement where appropriate
If the equipment is worth repairing, we are willing to look at practical ways to keep it working.
Why Did the Cylinder Fail?
A failed seal is a symptom.
Sometimes the seal simply reached the end of its life.
Other times the cylinder may be dealing with:
- Side-loading
- Misalignment
- Worn pins or bushings
- Damaged rods
- Contamination
- Excessive heat
- Pressure problems
- Mechanical binding
- Damage elsewhere on the machine
If the same cylinder keeps coming back with the same failure, there is usually value in looking beyond the seal kit.
The cylinder matters. The reason it failed matters too.
