PTO & Wet Kit Systems
Mondak works through the complete power path from the transmission to the hydraulic function.
PTO Problems Usually Show Up Somewhere Else First
A slow dump body, noisy hydraulic pump, hot oil, intermittent PTO engagement or equipment that struggles under load can all point back toward the PTO and wet kit.
But the failed part is not always the PTO itself.
The problem may be in the transmission interface, PTO selection, hydraulic pump, controls, plumbing, reservoir, or the equipment being powered.

The PTO Has to Match the Job
A PTO is not selected just because the bolt pattern fits.
The setup has to make sense for the transmission and the equipment being driven.
That includes:
- Transmission model
- PTO opening
- Drive gear
- Rotation
- PTO ratio
- Required pump speed
- Torque
- Horsepower
- Duty cycle
- Pump mounting
- Clearance
- Shift method
- Hydraulic demand
The goal is not simply to bolt a PTO onto the transmission. The goal is to make the truck and equipment work together correctly.
Chelsea, Muncie & Bezares Systems
Mondak works with PTO and mobile hydraulic systems from manufacturers including:
Parker Chelsea
Chelsea PTO systems are common across heavy vocational trucks and can include:
- Powershift PTOs
- Mechanical-shift PTOs
- Rear-mount PTOs
- Constant-drive systems
- Direct pump mounting
- Remote outputs
Muncie Power
Muncie PTO systems are used across a broad range of truck and transmission applications, including:
- Allison
- Eaton / Fuller
- Detroit
- Mack
- Volvo
- PACCAR
- Ford
- RAM
- Aisin
Bezares
Bezares systems can include:
- PTOs
- Hydraulic pumps
- Motors
- Valves
- Reservoirs
- Adapters
- Gearboxes
- Other mobile hydraulic components
We treat all of these as part of a system rather than isolated components.
A Wet Kit Is a Hydraulic System
A wet kit is more than a pump and tank.
Depending on the application, it may include:
- PTO
- Hydraulic pump
- Reservoir
- Suction plumbing
- Pressure lines
- Return lines
- Filtration
- Control valves
- Relief protection
- Air or electrical controls
- Cooler
- Hoses and fittings
- Cylinder or hydraulic motor
If one part is wrong, the entire system can suffer.
Hydraulic Pumps
Mondak works with gear, piston and other mobile hydraulic pump applications from manufacturers including:
- Parker
- Honor Pump
- Permco and other major hydraulic brands
Pump selection needs to match the application.
We look at:
- Required flow
- Operating pressure
- Pump displacement
- PTO speed
- Rotation
- Mounting
- Port configuration
- Duty cycle
- Equipment demand
More flow is not automatically better. More pressure is not automatically better. The system needs what the application actually requires.
When Hydraulic Performance Falls Off Under Load
A hydraulic system may appear normal until it has to do real work.
A dump body may raise quickly empty and struggle loaded.
A crane may move normally without a load and slow down once it starts lifting.
That can point toward problems such as:
- Worn pump
- Incorrect pump displacement
- Low PTO speed
- Relief valve opening early
- Internal leakage
- Cylinder bypass
- Restricted suction
- Valve problems
- Excessive hydraulic temperature
- Mechanical binding
Pressure and flow testing help separate those possibilities.
Changing the pump without knowing which one is happening can be an expensive guess.
PTO Engagement & Control Problems
PTO operation can involve more than the PTO itself.
An engagement problem may come from:
- Air supply
- Solenoid
- Electrical power
- Ground
- Pressure switch
- Transmission input
- Shift mechanism
- Wiring
- PTO enable conditions
- CAN/J1939 communication
- Body or equipment controls
On electronically controlled transmissions, the truck may need to see specific operating conditions before PTO engagement is allowed.
That is why Mondak's electrical and transmission diagnostic capabilities matter on modern PTO systems.
Heat Is Useful Information
A wet kit that suddenly starts running hotter than normal is telling you something.
Possible causes include:
- Pump wear
- Internal leakage
- Relief valve bypass
- Incorrect valve configuration
- Restricted filter
- Restricted suction
- Aeration
- Cavitation
- Wrong pump size
- Insufficient reservoir capacity
- Cooler problems
- Excessive duty cycle
The goal is not to make every hydraulic system run cold.
The goal is to determine whether the temperature is normal for the application, and if it has changed, why.
Repeated PTO or Pump Failures
If a truck keeps destroying PTOs or hydraulic pumps, the replacement part may not be the whole answer.
Repeated failures can come from:
- Incorrect PTO selection
- Incorrect gear engagement or backlash
- Wrong PTO ratio
- Incorrect pump rotation
- Misalignment
- Excessive torque
- Unsupported pump weight
- Driveline problems
- Contaminated hydraulic oil
- Cavitation
- Incorrect plumbing
- Excessive pressure
- Overheating
If the same component keeps failing, we want to know what the system is doing to it.
Truck Hydraulics & Hard-to-Find Connections
Wet kit work ties directly into Mondak's Hydraulic Services.
We can handle:
- Hydraulic hose assemblies
- Hard lines
- Pump connections
- Reservoir plumbing
- Adapters
- Metric fittings
- Conversion fittings
- Specialty connections
- DIN
- BSPP
- VOSS
- JIS
- KOMA
- JIC
- ORFS
- SAE O-ring
- Flange connections
Mondak is a BALFLEX Master Distributor and works with Adaptall, GK Fittings, Parker and other hydraulic products.
That becomes valuable when the connection on the truck is not something available at the average parts counter.
Vocational Equipment Applications
PTO and wet kit systems are used on equipment including:
- Dump trucks
- Service trucks
- Mechanics trucks
- Crane trucks
- Bucket trucks
- Winch trucks
- Oilfield trucks
- Hydraulic trailers
- Pumping equipment
- Vacuum equipment
- Generator packages
- Other vocational equipment
The equipment being powered matters just as much as the truck supplying the power.
New Installation or Existing Problem
Mondak can help whether you are installing a new system or fixing one that has never worked quite right.
For a new setup, useful information includes:
- Truck VIN
- Transmission model
- Equipment being driven
- Required flow and pressure
- Intended duty cycle
- Space and mounting limitations
For an existing system, tell us what changed.
From Transmission to Hydraulic Function
A PTO and wet kit sit between two systems.
On one side is the truck and transmission.
On the other is the hydraulic equipment that needs power.
Mondak works on both sides of that connection.
Tell us the truck, transmission, PTO and what the hydraulic equipment is doing.
We'll start there.
