The Bore, Not the Pin

A New Pin Won't Fix a Worn Bore

Once a pivot bore has worn oversized, egg-shaped or out of alignment, another pin or bushing may only tighten things up temporarily.

The bore itself needs attention.

With our CLIMAX equipment, we can build worn material back up, establish alignment and machine the bore back to the dimensions needed for the repair.

The goal is more than making the hole round again. The goal is to put the pivot back where it belongs.

CLIMAX BB5000 Portable Line Boring

Mondak uses CLIMAX BB5000 portable line boring systems for heavy-equipment bore repair.

The BB5000 uses a 2.25-inch boring bar and is designed for bore diameters from approximately 1.5 inches up to 24 inches, depending on setup.

That gives us a wide working range for repairs involving:

Because the equipment is portable, the machining operation can often go to the machine instead of requiring the entire structure to come to a machine shop.

Building Material Back

CLIMAX BW1000 Automated Bore Welding

When a bore has lost too much material to simply machine it larger, Mondak also has a CLIMAX BW1000 Auto Bore Welder.

The BW1000 automatically deposits weld material around the inside of the worn bore so the damaged area can be built back up before finish machining.

Its standard torch setup can work across a broad range of bore sizes, approximately 0.88 inches through 24 inches depending on configuration.

The system can be used in:

  • Vertical bores
  • Inverted positions
  • Confined equipment locations
  • Field repairs
  • Shop repairs

That gives us a practical way to restore material where years of movement have worn the original bore away.

The BB5000 and BW1000 are designed to work together.

That allows us to approach a badly worn joint as a complete repair:

Instead of simply installing an oversized pin into a damaged hole, we can restore the bore material and then machine it back to the dimensions required for the joint.

That is especially important when multiple bores need to remain on the same centerline.

Multiple Bores Need to Line Up

A round bore is not enough if it is no longer aligned with the bore on the other side of the joint.

Line boring establishes a common centerline through the repair.

That matters on components such as:

  • Bucket linkage
  • Center articulation

  • Large equipment frames

If two bores are supposed to share one pin, they need to agree on where that pin belongs.

Cylinder mounting points take substantial load.

A worn cylinder-mount bore can cause:

Sometimes what looks like a cylinder problem starts at the joint supporting the cylinder.
