Specialized Services
Mondak Equipment handles the repair jobs that often require a combination of field service, machining, welding, fabrication and equipment knowledge to solve correctly.
Some Repairs Don't Fit Neatly Into One Category
A worn pivot bore, damaged trailer spindle, broken mount or obsolete component may not be an engine problem, hydraulic problem or electrical problem.
It is still keeping the equipment from working.
Specialized Services
Mondak provides:
- Portable Line Boring & Pin/Bushing Repair
- Trailer Spindle Repair & Replacement
- Welding, Fabrication & Machining
- Mobile Field & Emergency Service
These services support the same trucks, construction equipment, agricultural machines, cranes, rail equipment, oilfield equipment and industrial machinery we repair every day.
Portable Line Boring & Pin/Bushing Repair
Once a bore is worn, another new pin or bushing may not solve the problem.
Mondak provides portable line boring and related repair for worn:
- Pin bores
- Pivot points
- Loader linkage
- Excavator booms and sticks
- Bucket connections
- Articulation joints
- Cylinder mounts
- Crane pivots
- Heavy-equipment mounting points
The repair can include more than boring the hole.
Depending on the condition, we can address the bore, pins, bushings and surrounding components that allowed the joint to wear in the first place.
Trailer Spindle Repair & Replacement
A damaged trailer spindle can take an otherwise usable trailer completely out of service.
Mondak provides dedicated spindle repair and replacement for heavy commercial and equipment trailers.
That can involve:
- Damaged or broken spindles
- Bearing-journal damage
- Worn seal surfaces
- Hub and bearing failures
- Axle-end damage
- Replacement spindle installation
- Welding and machining
- Related wheel-end repair
Sometimes replacing an entire axle is the right answer.
Sometimes repairing the spindle or axle end makes more sense.
Welding, Fabrication & Machining
Heavy equipment does not always fail in a way that can be repaired from a parts catalog.
- Equipment welding
- Structural and non-structural fabrication
- Brackets and mounts
- Pins
- Bushings
- Shafts
- Spacers
- Repair components
- Modifications
- Hard-to-find replacement pieces
This becomes especially valuable on older equipment where the original component may be unavailable or completely obsolete.
Sometimes the part you need is not available to order. That does not mean the repair stops there.
Older & Modified Equipment
A lot of specialized repair work starts with equipment that no longer matches the original book.
It may have been:
- Repowered
- Replumbed
- Rewired
- Reinforced
- Modified
- Rebuilt several times
- Updated with newer components
We start with what is actually on the machine.
Depending on the problem, the answer may be to:
- Repair the original component
- Cross-reference a replacement
- Machine a part
- Fabricate a mount
- Modify a connection
- Adapt a modern component
- Rebuild what is still serviceable
Mobile Field Repair
Some equipment is simply too large, too integrated or too inconvenient to bring into the shop for every repair.
Mondak provides mobile service for heavy equipment in the field.
That can include:
- Mechanical troubleshooting
- Hydraulic diagnostics
- Electrical diagnostics
- Hose and fitting work
- Component replacement
- Welding and fabrication
- Portable line boring
- Engine and powertrain diagnostics
- Emergency breakdown repair
When a component needs more extensive machining, rebuilding or shop work, we can bring the component back instead of moving the entire machine.
One Problem May Need Several Capabilities
A worn excavator pivot may need line boring, a new pin and fabricated bushings.
A trailer spindle failure may require machining, welding and wheel-end repair.
An obsolete machine component may require repair, adaptation and fabrication.
That is why these services belong together.
Mondak can follow the repair wherever the problem leads instead of stopping when it crosses into another trade.
Measure, machine and restore alignment
- Inspecting worn pin and bushing locations
- Measuring bore size and alignment
- Setting up the line boring equipment
- Machining the worn bore back to specification
- Installing new bushings
- Repairing or replacing worn pins
- Restoring proper component alignment
- Checking the finished repair
Connections, pivots and mounting points
- Loader and excavator boom and bucket connections
- Dozer and grader components
- Articulated equipment and articulation points
- Pins, bushings and pivot points
- Heavy equipment linkage and mounting points
- Loader arms, boom and stick connections
- Blade mounts and other worn pivot locations
Document condition before problems grow
Mondak performs inspections for heavy equipment, industrial equipment and fleet assets. Findings can be documented with recommendations for repair or future maintenance.
- Hydraulic leaks and component wear
- Structural damage
- Worn pins and bushings
- Brake and steering issues
- Electrical problems
- Engine and drivetrain concerns
- Safety-related defects
- Preventive maintenance needs
Bring tire pressing to the equipment
For solid and press-on industrial tires, Mondak operates a mobile press that can work at or near the customer's location. See the full mobile tire press service for equipment and process details.
Diagnose the failure and get the repair moving
When critical equipment goes down, Mondak can troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, diesel, mechanical and powertrain problems and determine a practical path back to operation. Emergency service availability depends on the equipment, location and current conditions, so call with the details.
Answers for this service
What exactly is line boring?
Line boring is precision machining used to restore worn pivot and pin bores. A portable boring bar machines the worn bore back to the required alignment and dimension.
A properly completed line-boring repair restores the geometry needed for the pin and bushing system to operate correctly.
What are the signs that equipment needs line boring?
Excessive movement at pins, loose or ovalized bores, abnormal wear, damaged bushings and visible movement in a linkage can indicate bore wear.
A proper inspection determines whether line boring is appropriate.
Why not just install a larger pin?
Simply installing a larger pin doesn't necessarily restore the correct alignment or geometry of the machine. If the bore is worn or out of alignment, machining the bore and fitting the correct pin and bushing system can provide a much more controlled repair.
Can line boring be performed onsite?
Yes. Portable line-boring equipment allows many repairs to be performed at the customer's location, avoiding transportation of large equipment to a machine shop.
What kind of fabrication work does Mondak perform?
We weld and fabricate for equipment repairs, structural repairs, component modifications and jobs where an off-the-shelf replacement isn't practical or available.
Why would a trailer spindle need repair?
Spindles can become damaged from overloads, impacts, bearing failures, improper assembly or wear. The condition of the spindle and axle assembly determines whether repair or replacement is appropriate.
Is spindle repair always possible?
No. A damaged spindle must be evaluated to determine whether it can be properly repaired or should be replaced.
Bring Us the Odd Repair
If you already know what broke, tell us.
If you only know the machine has developed wear, movement, damage or a failure nobody has found a good solution for yet, that works too.
Tell us what equipment you have, what is damaged and where it is located. We'll start there.
