About Mondak
What does Mondak Equipment & Hose actually specialize in?
Mondak specializes in keeping commercial, industrial and heavy equipment working. We service diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, emissions systems, transmissions, gearboxes, axles, final drives and hydraulic hose, with diagnostics, welding, fabrication, inspections and field service.
We work across industries including oil & gas, rail, construction, material handling, mining, power generation and other industrial operations.
What makes Mondak different from a typical equipment repair shop?
Mondak was built around equipment that basic mechanical repair will not fix. We combine diagnostics, hydraulic testing, hose manufacturing, component repair, diesel expertise, electrical troubleshooting, fabrication and mobile field service.
That means a customer doesn't necessarily need one company to diagnose the machine, another to make the hose, another to rebuild the cylinder and another to troubleshoot the electrical system.
Why does Mondak work on so many different types of equipment?
The systems used across heavy equipment are often similar even when the machines themselves are completely different. A hydraulic pump, proportional valve, diesel engine, CAN-bus network or final drive may require the same fundamental diagnostic principles regardless of whether it is installed on a loader, crane, rail mover or oilfield machine.
Our technicians focus on understanding the systems rather than limiting themselves to one equipment brand.
What should I have ready when I call Mondak about a breakdown?
The most useful information is the machine's make, model, serial number, current hours, location and a description of what happened.
Photos of the identification plate, warning lights, fault codes, damaged components, hydraulic leaks or wiring can also help us prepare before the technician arrives.
Why does Mondak ask for the machine serial number?
Two machines with the same model number can have completely different components depending on production year, serial-number range, engine configuration or destination market.
The serial number helps us identify the correct machine configuration and improves the chances of getting the right technical information and parts the first time.
Mobile Field Service
When does it make more sense to call Mondak's mobile service instead of hauling equipment to a shop?
If the machine is large, disabled, difficult to transport or located at a remote jobsite, bringing the repair capability to the machine can make more sense than moving the machine.
Our technicians can perform diagnostics and many mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and diesel repairs in the field.
What can a Mondak field technician actually bring to a jobsite?
Field technicians can bring diagnostic and hydraulic test equipment, electrical test equipment, hose-making tools and specialty tooling based on the machine and problem.
What happens if the technician arrives and discovers the machine needs a major repair?
The first objective is to determine exactly what failed. If the repair can safely be completed in the field, we'll work toward doing so.
If a component needs to be removed and rebuilt, or the machine needs shop equipment that cannot reasonably be taken onsite, we'll identify what needs to happen next rather than continuing to spend field-service time without a clear repair plan.
Why can mobile repair be less expensive than transporting heavy equipment?
Transporting heavy equipment can involve a truck, trailer, loading and unloading, permits, travel time and additional coordination.
If the problem can be repaired where the machine is located, those transportation costs may be avoided. It also gets the equipment back to work without waiting for a transportation slot.
Does mobile service make sense for a machine that is still running?
Yes. A machine doesn't have to be completely dead before mobile service becomes useful. Diagnostics, inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs can often be performed before a developing problem turns into a major breakdown.
Industrial Facilities, Mines & Power Plants
Can Mondak service equipment inside a mine?
Yes. Our field-service model is suited to industrial environments where equipment may be large, remote or impractical to transport.
Mining customers may also have strict safety, contractor, background-screening and site-access requirements. Those requirements are addressed before the technician enters the facility.
What about power plants with controlled access?
Power-generation facilities often have extensive contractor requirements, controlled areas and site-specific safety procedures. Mondak can coordinate with the facility to determine the documentation, training, screening, badging and access requirements needed for the job.
Can Mondak work at a facility requiring federal background screening or clearance?
We can support projects where technicians must complete federal, facility or contractor screening requirements, provided the personnel assigned to the project meet the applicable requirements.
Clearance requirements are different from one facility or project to another, so we verify the requirements before dispatch.
Does Mondak already have security clearance for every federal facility?
No. Security requirements are specific to the facility, contract and level of access involved. We do not claim a blanket federal clearance for every employee or every facility.
Instead, we determine the actual requirements of the project and coordinate the appropriate personnel and documentation.
Why is site access something a customer should discuss before scheduling a repair?
A technician with the right tools is still unable to perform the repair if they cannot get through the gate.
Advance notice allows us to identify background checks, badging, safety orientations, drug testing, PPE requirements, escorts, training or other site-specific requirements before the technician arrives.
Can Mondak work around hazardous or restricted industrial environments?
We can work within the safety and access requirements established by the facility. The equipment, work area and hazards are evaluated before service begins, and the facility's rules remain in effect while our technicians are onsite.
Hydraulic Systems
What is JIS hydraulic fitting and where would I find it?
JIS stands for Japanese Industrial Standard. JIS hydraulic connections are commonly found on Japanese equipment and can be confused with other fitting styles.
Identifying the actual connection before building the hose prevents problems caused by using a similar but incorrect fitting.
Why would European equipment require different hydraulic fittings?
Equipment designed for European and other international markets may use BSP, metric or other connection standards that aren't common on American-built equipment.
That is one reason Mondak maintains a broader fitting inventory.
Diesel & Engine Diagnostics
Powertrain & Drivetrain
What causes final-drive failures?
Final drives can fail from lubrication problems, contamination, bearing wear, gear damage, excessive loading, seal failures and other mechanical conditions.
Finding the reason for the failure is important before putting another final drive into the machine.
What is a third member and why would it need repair?
A third member contains the differential and gear assembly in certain axle designs. Gear wear, bearing failure, contamination and improper setup can cause noise, overheating or eventual failure.
Material Handling
Parts & Sourcing
How does Mondak handle hard-to-find parts?
Mondak uses multiple parts and supplier resources rather than relying on one dealership. The search can include OEM, aftermarket, rebuilt, remanufactured and specialty channels.
We check whether the part has been superseded or cross-referenced. For some components, rebuilding the customer's original part may also be an option.
Does Mondak carry parts in stock?
We maintain inventory of commonly needed hydraulic components, fittings and other service parts, while using supplier networks for components that don't make sense to stock locally.
Gray-Market Equipment
What exactly is a gray-market machine?
A gray-market machine is generally a genuine piece of equipment manufactured for another country or regional market and later imported into the United States outside the manufacturer's authorized U.S. distribution channel.
The machine may be completely legitimate equipment, but it wasn't necessarily built to U.S. specifications.
Why can gray-market equipment be a nightmare for parts?
The foreign-market machine may have different part numbers, engine configurations, hydraulic components, electrical systems or control modules.
The machine's serial number may also fail to appear in the U.S. manufacturer's parts system.
That means the local dealer may not be able to identify or order the component even though the machine itself is genuine.
Are gray-market machines built differently from U.S. machines?
They can be. Differences may involve emissions, lighting, safety equipment, operator controls, ROPS, seat belts, hydraulic systems, engine specifications, electrical systems and other components.
The exact differences depend on the machine and market for which it was originally manufactured.
Why might a manufacturer refuse to support a gray-market machine?
Manufacturers generally structure their dealer networks and technical support around the markets for which equipment was originally produced and sold.
A machine imported outside that network may not have the same parts, service or warranty support available in North America.
Does Mondak refuse every gray-market machine?
No. We evaluate them individually.
Our mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, diagnostic, fabrication and component-repair work may allow us to support equipment that doesn't have normal U.S. dealer support.
But we won't promise a repair until we know the machine can be safely and practically supported.
Give us the identification information before assuming it is unrepairable. We'll determine whether the machine can be identified, whether parts and technical information are available and whether the repair can be performed safely and properly.
What should I do before buying a gray-market machine?
Find out exactly where the machine was manufactured for sale, obtain the complete identification information and determine whether parts and technical support are available in the United States.
A pre-purchase inspection can also identify problems that may not be obvious during a short demonstration.
Is a gray-market machine automatically unsafe?
No. Being gray-market does not automatically mean a machine is unsafe.
The issue is that the machine may have been built to a different country's requirements. Its actual configuration and compliance with applicable U.S. requirements need to be evaluated separately.
Can Mondak make a foreign machine meet U.S. safety requirements?
We do not automatically certify or represent a machine as U.S.-compliant simply because we repair it.
Safety and regulatory compliance must be evaluated according to the specific machine, application and applicable requirements.
What information does Mondak need to evaluate gray-market equipment?
We want the machine's complete model and serial/PIN information, engine information, component tags, photographs of identification plates, manuals, existing part numbers and the country or market for which the machine was originally built.
Equipment Mondak Does Not Service
Does Mondak repair everything with an engine?
No. Our focus is commercial, industrial and heavy-duty equipment. We are not trying to be a general small-engine repair shop.
Will Mondak fix my rototiller?
Probably not, and that's intentional.
Our technicians, tooling and diagnostic equipment are built around heavy equipment, industrial machinery, hydraulics, diesel systems and complex equipment.
A residential rototiller belongs with a small-engine repair specialist.
You probably don't want us.
We're serious about heavy equipment, industrial machinery and commercial service. There are excellent small-engine shops that are better equipped for rototillers, lawn equipment and residential machines.
Our technicians are better utilized keeping a crane, excavator, rail mover, forklift, HPU, generator, loader or oilfield machine working.
What about lawn mowers and residential equipment?
Those machines generally fall outside our service scope. We would rather send customers to a shop equipped for small-engine work than charge them heavy-equipment service rates for something we don't specialize in.
What if my machine is unusual but commercially important?
Call us before assuming we can't help.
Unusual commercial equipment is often where Mondak's diagnostic, hydraulic, mechanical and fabrication work is useful.
Mondak was built to work on equipment that doesn't always fit neatly into a dealership service department. We like complicated equipment, but we also know when a machine is outside our capabilities.
Why does Mondak turn down certain repairs?
A responsible repair company needs to know its limits.
If we cannot obtain the necessary parts, technical information or specifications, or if the repair cannot be performed safely and properly, we will tell the customer rather than guess.
Preventive Maintenance
What is the purpose of preventive maintenance?
Preventive maintenance identifies developing problems before they become major failures. Inspections can reveal leaks, worn components, electrical problems, fluid issues and other conditions before they cause unexpected downtime.
Can Mondak build a maintenance schedule around machine hours?
Yes. PM programs can be structured around equipment-hour intervals such as 250-, 500- or other manufacturer-recommended service intervals.
Can maintenance inspections be documented digitally?
Yes. Mondak uses digital inspection and maintenance tools to document equipment condition, service requirements and completed work.
Can equipment have a QR code linked to its maintenance information?
Yes. QR codes can connect a machine to its digital service information and provide a convenient way to report service needs.
Why is digital equipment history valuable?
A documented service history helps identify recurring failures, track maintenance intervals and give technicians better information when diagnosing future problems.
The Mondak Approach
Why doesn't Mondak just replace the component that threw the fault code?
The component associated with a fault code isn't always the component that failed.
We test the system, verify the failure and understand the cause before recommending an expensive component replacement. For complex failures, diagnosis comes first.
Testing identifies the failure, repair path and required parts and labor before unnecessary work is performed.
Why does Mondak spend money on specialized diagnostic equipment?
The equipment we service isn't limited to the most common machines in the area.
European engines, specialized cranes, rail equipment, imported machines and modern electronically controlled equipment can require diagnostic tools that a general-purpose scan tool cannot provide.
Why does Mondak carry so many different hydraulic fitting standards?
Our customers operate equipment built all over the world.
A machine manufactured in Japan, Europe or another international market may use fittings that aren't common on American-built equipment. Having those fittings available can make the difference between waiting for a part and building the hose immediately.
What happens when Mondak encounters a machine nobody has worked on before?
We start with identification and system understanding. We gather machine and component information, use available diagnostic resources, inspect the equipment and test the systems involved.
Unfamiliar does not automatically mean impossible, but it does mean we need to understand what we're working on before making a repair recommendation.
Can Mondak repair a component instead of making the customer buy a new one?
When technically and economically appropriate, yes.
Hydraulic cylinders, pumps, motors, valves, drivetrain components and other assemblies may sometimes be rebuilt or repaired instead of replaced.
Why is finding the cause of a failure important?
Replacing a failed component without finding why it failed can result in another failure.
For example, replacing a hydraulic pump without identifying contamination, excessive heat, control problems or another underlying issue can put the replacement pump at risk.
Does Mondak work on equipment other shops don't want to touch?
We are comfortable evaluating specialized, imported and complicated equipment. Our shop is built for jobs that are not routine maintenance or straightforward repairs.
We still won't take every job, but unusual equipment isn't automatically a reason for us to walk away.
What if another shop says my machine needs a major component?
Get a second diagnostic opinion when appropriate.
Before spending thousands of dollars on a pump, controller, transmission or engine component, it can be worthwhile to verify that the component has actually been proven to be the cause of the problem.
Can Mondak support equipment that operates 24/7?
Mondak provides field service and emergency breakdown support for industries where equipment does not operate on an 8-to-5 schedule.
Oil & gas, industrial, mining, rail and other operations can require service outside normal business hours.
Why should an industrial customer keep Mondak's number before a breakdown happens?
The worst time to search for a repair company is when a critical machine is already down.
Having the equipment information and a service relationship established ahead of time can make diagnosis, dispatch, parts sourcing and field response much faster when a breakdown occurs.
What if my equipment is worth millions of dollars and I can't afford extended downtime?
Tell us that when you call.
The urgency, equipment value, production impact and location help determine the appropriate response. Mondak will diagnose the failure, identify the repair path and work to return the equipment to productive service.
Does Mondak only repair equipment, or can you help prevent breakdowns?
Both.
Repair gets a failed machine back to work. Preventive maintenance, inspections, digital service records and early diagnostics are intended to keep that machine from reaching the failure point in the first place.
What is the biggest advantage of using one company for all these services?
It reduces the number of companies involved in a complicated repair.
A single machine may have a diesel problem, hydraulic problem, electrical fault and damaged hose at the same time. Mondak can approach those systems together rather than treating each one as an unrelated repair.
What if Mondak determines we aren't the right company for the repair?
We'll tell you.
Knowing when to recommend another specialist is better than accepting a job we cannot properly support. Our objective is a successful repair, not simply getting a work order.
How do I know whether Mondak can work on my equipment?
Send us the make, model, serial number, location and a description of the problem.
If it's a commercial, industrial or heavy-duty machine, there is a good chance we can at least evaluate it. We'll determine what we can support, what information we need and whether we have a practical repair path.
When to Call
What kind of problems should I call Mondak about?
If a commercial or industrial machine has a hydraulic failure, diesel problem, electrical fault, emissions issue, drivetrain failure, damaged hose, component failure, recurring breakdown or difficult-to-diagnose problem, Mondak is equipped to evaluate it.
What if the machine is in the middle of nowhere?
Mobile field service is built for that. Tell us where the equipment is, what it is and what happened. We'll determine what it takes to get a technician and the appropriate equipment to the site.
What if the machine was built in another country?
Don't assume we can't work on it. International equipment can require different diagnostic equipment, fittings, parts and technical information. Mondak has invested in tools and resources for equipment outside the typical North American equipment mix.
What is Mondak's goal when a customer's equipment breaks down?
Find the actual problem, develop a practical repair plan and get the equipment back to work safely and efficiently.
Send the identification and symptoms
The machine's make, model, serial number, location, current hours, fault information and photos can help us understand the starting point.
