Hydraulic Catwalk Repair

When a hydraulic catwalk is down, the problem is not always figuring out what failed.

Sometimes the issue needs to be diagnosed. Other times, you already know exactly what is wrong: you just cannot get the part, the component is obsolete, or you cannot find anyone willing to take on the repair.

That can mean diagnosing a hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, or control problem. It can also mean repairing an existing component, finding an alternative, machining or fabricating what is needed, or working out a practical solution for equipment that is no longer well supported.

A catwalk may be slow, bind under load, stop in the middle of a cycle, work intermittently, or have one function that simply will not operate correctly.

The problem could be hydraulic.

It could also be mechanical wear, a control issue, a damaged sensor, wiring, a worn chain or sprocket, a failing bearing, or a power unit that is not supplying what the machine needs.

Mondak works through the equipment to determine where the problem is coming from instead of assuming the first symptom tells the whole story.

Hydraulic catwalks move a lot of weight through repeated cycles, and that eventually shows up in the mechanical components.

A catwalk can have plenty of hydraulic pressure and still perform poorly if something is worn, binding, or out of alignment.

We look at both sides of the machine.

Catwalk hoses and hydraulic lines move every time the equipment cycles.

Over time, that movement can lead to:

• Chafing
• Abrasion
• Flex-point wear
• Tight bend radius
• Failed clamps
• Damaged hose guides
• Rub-through
• Cracked hard lines
• Fatigue around fittings and bends

Mondak can repair the damaged line while also looking at what caused it to fail.

If the same hose keeps rubbing through in the same place, installing another hose without fixing the wear point does not solve much.

Trailer-mounted hydraulic catwalks can bring their own power and support systems into the repair.
