Hydraulic hoses have a way of failing at the worst possible time.

It might happen during harvest, when a combine is working from daylight to dark. It might happen on a construction site, at an industrial facility, in a warehouse, or out on an oilfield location.

When a hydraulic hose fails, the machine stops.

And when the machine stops, waiting for a replacement hose isn't always an option.

The Right Hose for the Job

Hydraulic hose isn't one-size-fits-all.

Different hydraulic systems put different demands on a hose. Pressure, temperature, flexibility, bend radius, abrasion, fluid compatibility, and routing all need to be considered when selecting the right hose.

We work with a wide range of hydraulic hose constructions for different applications.

R16 is a compact, two-wire-braid hose designed for high-pressure applications where space and flexibility can be important.

R12 uses four spiral layers of steel wire reinforcement and is designed for high-pressure, high-impulse applications where durability is critical.

R14 is a PTFE hose with stainless-steel reinforcement. Its construction makes it useful for applications where temperature, chemical compatibility, or fluid compatibility are important.

R4 is different from the high-pressure hoses above. It is commonly used for hydraulic suction and return applications, where flexibility and resistance to collapse under suction are important.

We also work with other hose constructions, including braided, spiral, thermoplastic, PTFE, suction, return, and specialty hoses.

The point is simple:

We don't just match the size of the old hose. We look at what the hose is actually doing.

One-Piece or Two-Piece Crimp Fittings

The hose is only half of the assembly.

The fitting matters just as much.

Depending on the hose construction and application, hydraulic assemblies can be built using one-piece or two-piece crimp fittings.

A traditional two-piece fitting uses a separate fitting and ferrule. During the crimping process, those components work together to secure the hose to the fitting.

A one-piece fitting combines those components into a single fitting.

When the proper one-piece fitting is available for the hose and application, it can simplify the assembly by eliminating a separate component.

But choosing the right fitting can do more than simplify the assembly.

Eliminate Unnecessary Adapters

Sometimes an assembly requires an adapter simply because the connection on the end of the hose isn't the connection the machine needs.

Instead of:

Hose → adapter → fitting → machine

we may be able to build:

Hose → correct hose end → machine

In other words, the hose fitting becomes the adapter.

Every additional connection creates another potential leakage point.

Eliminating unnecessary adapters can reduce the number of connections, simplify the installation, and reduce opportunities for leaks.

That doesn't mean a one-piece fitting is automatically the right choice for every application. The hose, fitting, crimp specification, pressure rating, temperature, and machine connection all have to be compatible.

That's why proper hose selection matters.

Every Hose Gets an Identification Code

We do something different with the hose assemblies we build.

Every hose gets its own identification code.

But it's more than a simple tracking number.

The hose type, size, length, fitting configuration, and other assembly information are built into the identification code itself.

If that hose fails later, the customer can simply give us the identification code.

We don't have to guess what hose they need.

We don't have to start over trying to identify the old assembly.

The information is already built into the code.

That can make a big difference when equipment is down and every minute counts.

A customer may have already removed the failed hose themselves. They can give us the identification code, and we can start building the replacement.

In some situations, we can even meet them halfway with the finished hose.

The goal:

Make the next hose replacement faster.

Proper Torque Matters

Building the correct hose assembly is only part of the job.

Installing it correctly matters too.

We provide torque specifications for the applicable fittings and connections used with the hose assembly.

Too little torque can prevent a fitting from sealing correctly. It can allow the connection to loosen, move, or leak.

But tighter isn't always better.

Over-tightening can damage threads, distort sealing surfaces, damage fittings, and create problems that can eventually result in leaks or premature failure.

The correct torque depends on the specific fitting, size, material, connection type, and manufacturer's specifications.

That's why "tight" isn't a torque specification.

The right hose.
The right fitting.
The right crimp.
The right torque.

Every part of the assembly matters.

When Harvest Can't Wait

For farmers, a hydraulic hose failure during harvest is downtime.

A combine sitting in the field isn't harvesting.

A grain cart isn't moving grain.

A tractor isn't pulling the next load.
